Ubuntu 10.4 Rocks
« on: July 16, 2010, 04:23:52 AM »
I've been attempting to change from Microsoft Window to Linux for some years now. However, all attempt proved abortive until this month. I love the idea of using Open Source software, but then, there are still somethings I have to do in Windows while at my place of employment.

Since I've been using Microsoft Windows all my life, the change over was proving difficult. Two particular software were the last hurdles I had to surmount. Both are softwares being used for official business. There was no way I can get other users to abandon them. Also, there is no open source alternative yet for those two.

My first attempt at crossing those hurdles took me to Wine, which is a kind of window emulator for Linux Operating systems. Unfortunately, I couldn't use those software without hitches. So, I had to look for another solution.

Well, after much effort, I succeeded in using Sun VirtualBox to solve the problem. I installed VirtualBox into my Ubuntu 10.4 desktop and thereafter boxed WindowXp. Now I can do whatever I like in Ubuntu and if there is any need to use window, I simply fire up Sun Virtual Box.

I also love the idea of being able to work without worrying about VIRUS, TROJANS, SPYWARES etc. It seems the bad guys concentrate on making life difficult for microsoft window users. I'm yet to see a Linux virus, though I've heard they exist.

Well, that is the brief account of how I finally switched over to Ubuntu. If you've been thinking of making the switch, but you're having some difficulty because of some programs that are tied to Microsoft Windows Apron, then I suggest you try out VirtualBox. It makes Ubuntu 10.04 rocks.
